While many of these solutions remain in effect today, they only protect devices and equipment within a defined network perimeter. Today’s business environment doesn’t always work that way. - [3 Warehouse Automation Trends Redefining 3PL Fulfillment and Storage Operations](https://phoenix3pl.com/3pl/3-warehouse-automation-trends-redefining-3pl-fulfillment-and-storage-operations/): The companies we know today as third-party logistics (3PL) providers have been around for about 40 years. 3PL services came about in the 1980s as companies that traditionally only offered warehousing and storage services began leveraging a rapidly growing transportation sector to expand their services. This model grew over the next few decades as 3PLs began to take on more supply chain responsibilities from their shipper customers. - [Why Brownfield Sites Are Optimal for Data Center Development](https://phoenix3pl.com/3pl/why-brownfield-sites-are-optimal-for-data-center-development/): If you’re looking for the perfect site for your next data center, you aren’t alone. Data center land sales were up 141% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2026, accounting for almost a third of all development sites purchased. Those perfect sites are getting fewer and further between, and even when you can find them, the price tags are often out of reach for all but the biggest developers and investors. - [Why Speed to Market Matters for Data Centers (And How to Achieve It)](https://phoenix3pl.com/3pl/why-speed-to-market-matters-for-data-centers-and-how-to-achieve-it/): The United States hosts 43% of the world’s data centers and is looking to host more. The U.S. data center market has become much more complicated in the last two years, and land acquisitions intended for data centers have skyrocketed in the past year alone. The growing complexity of builds stems from the evolving nature of data center requirements. - [Trouble Finding Buildable Land? Consider Adaptive Reuse of Blighted and Brownfield Sites](https://phoenix3pl.com/3pl/trouble-finding-buildable-land-consider-adaptive-reuse-of-blighted-and-brownfield-sites/): Across the United States, there are thousands of abandoned or underutilized properties, often labeled as brownfield or blighted sites. These locations often have significant unlocked potential for new developers and owners willing to put in a little extra work to bring them up to speed. - [How a 3PL Can Help You Solve Your Transportation and Warehousing Labor Shortage Issues](https://phoenix3pl.com/3pl/how-a-3pl-can-help-you-solve-your-transportation-and-warehousing-labor-shortage-issues/): The logistics sector has been dealing with a labor shortage for many years, but each year, those issues become harder to address with traditional approaches. Businesses are having trouble staffing up warehouses for peak season, while fleet managers are struggling to put drivers in seats. And despite HR teams' best efforts, internal hiring alone can’t keep pace with the volatility of today’s market. - [How AI and Machine Learning Are Changing Logistics and Freight Planning](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/how-ai-and-machine-learning-are-changing-logistics-and-freight-planning/): For most of the past few decades, logistics planning has been a mix of experience, spreadsheets, and a fair amount of guesswork. Forecasting demand, routing freight, and managing capacity have all traditionally relied heavily on manual decisions layered on top of historical data. That approach worked (for the most part) until volatility became the norm. - [4 Trends Shaping Customer Expectations for Last-Mile Delivery](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/4-trends-shaping-customer-expectations-for-last-mile-delivery/): The final mile may only be a small part of the product journey, but it is the most impactful. Last-mile delivery is the most expensive logistics component of an online order for the shipper and leaves an impression on the buyer. If the shopper must contend with delays, missed deliveries, or damaged goods, that reflects badly on the retailer where they bought the item and may cost them a customer. - [Top Considerations for Data Center Site Selection](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/top-considerations-for-data-center-site-selection/): It is indisputable at this point that the future of technology lies in cloud-based, AI-powered systems. These solutions require data centers to operate, and as a result, demand for data capacity has never been higher. For developers, investors, or companies looking to build new data center facilities, selecting the right site is essential to project success. - [Overcoming Data Center Development & Construction Challenges in a Highly Competitive Market](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/overcoming-data-center-development-construction-challenges-in-a-highly-competitive-market/): As the business world leans further into cloud and artificial intelligence solutions, demand for the data centers that power them continues to rise. Unfortunately, it is not as easy as simply building more data centers and selling or leasing them to the many companies that need them. The reality is that data center projects must overcome an increasingly challenging set of hurdles before they reach the finish line. - [How to Manage Logistics Effectively During Data Center Development & Construction](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/how-to-manage-logistics-effectively-during-data-center-development-construction/): Data center market growth shows no sign of slowing down in 2026 as enterprises across sectors continue to adopt cloud technologies and artificial intelligence at a rapid pace. The United States will be the largest market for data centers, with some experts expecting the country to account for roughly two-thirds of global data center power demand by 2028. - [Your Guide to Reducing Cart Abandonment Through Better Fulfillment](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/your-guide-to-reducing-cart-abandonment-through-better-fulfillment/): If a customer adds five items to their online shopping cart and then closes the browser before purchasing, it could simply mean that they changed their mind for some unpredictable reason. Maybe they decided to buy it later and went to bed, or they were just browsing with no intent to buy. However, it could also indicate that something is wrong on the retailer’s end that resulted in that change. - [The Differences Between Long-Term 3PL Partnerships and Short-Term Contracts](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/the-differences-between-long-term-3pl-partnerships-and-short-term-contracts/): With volatility becoming the norm in the supply chain, many shippers have begun reevaluating how they engage with third-party logistics (3PL) providers. As businesses increasingly rely on 3PLs for agility and flexibility during unexpected disruptions, some may find that their basic transactional relationships with logistics providers are no longer sufficient. - [Key Fulfillment KPIs for Your 3PL & Why You Should Track Them](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/key-fulfillment-kpis-for-your-3pl-why-you-should-track-them/): Shippers typically hire third-party logistics (3PL) providers to offload logistics and fulfillment, freeing up resources to be redirected to core competencies and revenue-generating activities. But, as a shipper, how much should you take on faith when it comes to trusting your 3PL? You might assume your partner is doing a great job (or at least an adequate one), but if you aren’t tracking and benchmarking their performance, it can be difficult to know how much they are actually helping or hurting your brand. - [4 Last-Minute Preparations You Can Still Make Before Post-Peak Returns Hit](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/4-last-minute-preparations-you-can-still-make-before-post-peak-returns-hit/): Omnichannel retailers and e-commerce sellers rightfully dedicate significant time, money, and resources to making sure everything goes exactly right during the holiday peak season. But even when perfect order rates are sky high, consumers will inevitably choose to return some of the items they purchased or were gifted over the holidays. - [Ramping Up for Peak Season With Your 3PL](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/ramping-up-for-peak-season-with-your-3pl/): For retailers and online brands, peak season is one of the biggest opportunities of the year—and one of the biggest stress tests. For many businesses, demand begins picking up with the back-to-school season in the fall. But the real strain comes between Black Friday and the end of the year, when demand spikes can easily overwhelm an unprepared fulfillment operation. - [How Automation and AI Are Reshaping Warehousing Operations](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/how-automation-and-ai-are-reshaping-warehousing-operations/): Longstanding manual warehouse processes have failed to keep up in the age of online shopping, where consumers expect delivery of the goods they buy within increasingly shorter timelines. Consumers have also taken their expectations for fast delivery with them to their jobs, where they often want B2B orders to arrive just as quickly. Speed aside, buyers also want more control over their orders, with real-time tracking, the ability to pick delivery speeds and windows, and the lowest possible cost for fulfillment. - [How Distributed Fulfillment Works & Why It Matters](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/how-distributed-fulfillment-works-why-it-matters/): While many traditional distribution and fulfillment models focus on a centralized inventory hub, that method has become less effective for modern e-commerce logistics. Today’s consumers want the goods they order to ship fast and cheap (or free), which means inventory must be located near the largest population centers to meet demand. - [How Onshoring is Impacting Industrial Real Estate](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/how-onshoring-is-impacting-industrial-real-estate/): The industrial sector witnessed unprecedented growth during the COVID-19 pandemic, driven primarily by the surge in warehousing demand fueled by e-commerce. Now that the market has returned to normal after these record-setting years, industry stakeholders seek new avenues for growth. - [Phoenix Logistics Named a 2025 Top 100 3PL](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/phoenix-logistics-named-a-2025-top-100-3pl/): Inbound Logistics has just announced the Top 100 3PLs of 2025, and Phoenix Logistics is honored to be on the list. - [How Artificial Intelligence Is Impacting the Supply Chain in 2025](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/how-artificial-intelligence-is-impacting-the-supply-chain-in-2025/): The popularity of generative artificial intelligence (AI) solutions started to grow after ChatGPT was released in late 2022, and stakeholders ranging from the boardroom to the end consumer began wondering how AI could help address supply chain complexity and resiliency problems. - [Why Your In-House Fulfillment Might Be Costing You More Than Necessary](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/why-your-in-house-fulfillment-might-be-costing-you-more-than-necessary/): When a retail or e-commerce business is getting off the ground, handling fulfillment directly makes sense. However, as these companies grow into the middle market, fulfillment costs can begin to whittle away at profit margins. Inevitably, a decision must be made—invest in expanding in-house logistics or outsource to a logistics provider. - [Exploring the Data Center Boom’s Impact On Industrial Real Estate](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/exploring-the-data-center-booms-impact-on-industrial-real-estate/): The technology sector has seen significant advances in technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) over the last few years, as pandemic-era efforts to advance automation capabilities come to fruition. As these solutions grow in scope and capabilities, they rely on data centers to manage, process, and store information. - [How Inflation Impacts Industrial Real Estate](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/how-inflation-impacts-industrial-real-estate/): The global pandemic had a lasting influence on the economy in the form of heightened inflation. In response to this inflationary environment, the Federal Reserve started hiking interest rates in 2022 to force demand and prices down. These rate hikes, among other factors, contributed to a rebalancing of supply and demand in the industrial real estate sector. - [Does your supply chain still need a sustainability mindset in 2025?](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/does-your-supply-chain-still-need-a-sustainability-mindset-in-2025/): While the previous administration spent four years prioritizing emissions reduction and green manufacturing through the Inflation Reduction Act and other legislation, current U.S. leadership has gone in a different direction by making moves to deregulate industry as it seeks to advance American energy independence and reduce reliance on China and other foreign manufacturing destinations. As a result, many business leaders are wondering if their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts remain worth investing in through 2025 and beyond. - [The Role of Your 3PL in Integrated Supply Chain Planning](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/the-role-of-your-3pl-in-integrated-supply-chain-planning/): The supply chain breaks down into a variety of functions, including procurement, production, inventory management, warehousing, distribution, and transportation, among others. While these areas often have significant overlap, many companies handle distinct functions using different teams, vendors, and software. This creates silos around each function that lead to operational inefficiencies and increased costs. - [4 Things That Will Drive a Warehouse Market Recovery in 2025](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/4-things-that-will-drive-a-warehouse-market-recovery-in-2025/): From 2020 to 2023, warehouse vacancies hit record lows as companies stockpiled safety inventory to mitigate disruption risks during the most volatile point in recent supply chain memory. Then, as the pandemic subsided and supply chain practices went back to something resembling normal, the industrial real estate sector began to experience a normalization from those record highs. - [How Your Supply Chain Impacts Your End Customer’s Experience](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/how-your-supply-chain-impacts-your-end-customers-experience/): In the highly competitive retail market, you will hear a lot of talk about the “customer experience.” This concept was once the domain of sales reps and marketing teams, but the general public has gained better awareness in recent years about where the items they buy come from and how they get to the store shelf or front porch. - [Will Reshoring Continue in 2025?](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/will-reshoring-continue-in-2025/): The past five years have seen a substantial uptick in reshoring activity as companies try to build more resilient supply chains that can resist unexpected disruptions ranging from global pandemics to trade wars and geopolitical instability. As supply chain leaders look ahead to the rest of 2025, it’s easy to wonder how the current presidential administration’s policies will impact the reshoring trend. In this article, we’ll discuss how current trade and economic policies could impact the ongoing onshoring efforts by U.S. businesses. - [Optimizing Fleet Operations with Geolocation](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/optimizing-fleet-operations-with-geolocation/): The cyclical nature of the freight market means that fleet operators must always be prepared for the next downturn. Texas and Florida took top honors as the two states with the most new capacity installed, with commercial markets driving much of that growth. Valued at $63.6 billion, the U.S. solar market employs about 280,000 people across more than 10,000 different businesses. - [How Reshoring Production to Rural America Benefits Communities](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/how-reshoring-production-to-rural-america-benefits-communities/): More companies have turned to reshoring as they build more resilient and sustainable supply chains. Government incentives from the Inflation Reduction Act and other legislation have sweetened the pot, encouraging more companies to bring home operations from overseas. However, as American businesses begin to put reshoring plans into action, many have struggled to find suitable factory locations near primary and even secondary markets. - [How 3PLs Will Lead the Logistics Automation Revolution](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/how-3pls-will-lead-the-logistics-automation-revolution/): If you work in supply chain and logistics long enough, you start to see science fiction become a reality. If you go back as far as the 1950s, you’ll find that writers like Isaac Asimov and Philip K. Dick were writing about self-driving cars and flying drones that perform everyday tasks. What was once futuristic fiction is quickly becoming a practical reality in the logistics sector. - [How the Internet of Things Has Revolutionized the Supply Chain](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/how-the-internet-of-things-has-revolutionized-the-supply-chain/): Until about 25 years ago, warehouses relied on manual processes to manage inventory. Warehouse associates had to locate each item physically and then document it on paper or with a barcode scanner for upload to a spreadsheet or database. While some warehouses still operate this way, the methodology is outdated, slow, and inaccurate for businesses that move substantial volume. - [Exploring the Rise of Popularity in Industrial Outdoor Storage](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/exploring-the-rise-of-popularity-in-industrial-outdoor-storage/): Industrial real estate has experienced a rebalancing since the pandemic subsided, with most subclasses in the sector returning to pre-pandemic levels of demand. Unlike the broader sector, however, demand for industrial outdoor storage (IOS) has ticked steadily upward in the post-pandemic environment as companies rebalance their supply chains and change how they store and transport goods. - [Elastic Logistics: What It Is and Why Your Business Needs It](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/elastic-logistics-what-it-is-and-why-your-business-needs-it/): In recent years, the only thing predictable about the supply chain has been its unpredictable nature. Whether disruptions come from extreme weather events, tension between nations, overwhelming peak season demand, economic instability, or some other as-yet-unseen Black Swan event, supply chains must have the capability to adapt in a fluid and decisive manner. - [4 Logistics Challenges for Solar Panels and How to Overcome Them](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/4-logistics-challenges-for-solar-panels-and-how-to-overcome-them/): While the Trump administration has deprioritized green energy as a solution to the nation’s energy crisis, that doesn’t mean solar is going away. In fact, during the first Trump administration, the solar energy actually experienced 128% growth, expanding to 100 GW of total capacity. Furthermore, infrastructure development in the U.S. power grid is currently failing to keep up with demand, increasing the risk of energy shortages. - [How Supply Chain Big Data & Analytics Can Improve Your Business](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/how-supply-chain-big-data-analytics-can-improve-your-business/): Big data and analytics have become increasingly important in supply chains, especially as businesses turn to artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to improve processes and operations. As these solutions become more viable for real-world use, supply chain stakeholders find themselves with a growing need for accurate data. Organizations that can harness that data will find themselves better positioned to reap benefits from advances in supply chain and logistics technologies. - [Blockchain and the Organization of Data in Supply Chains](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/blockchain-and-the-organization-of-data-in-supply-chains/): When most people think of blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum are the first thing that comes to mind. The technology gained prominence in the financial sector because it permits users to make digital transactions safely and securely without oversight from any central authority. Beyond the world of finance, however, blockchain is quietly revolutionizing how industries manage and track all sorts of data. - [How Local EDCs Provide Resources for Siting or Relocating Your Business](https://phoenix3pl.com/articles/how-local-edcs-provide-resources-for-siting-or-relocating-your-business/): Picking a location for a new business can feel daunting. Because of this, many shippers spread freight volume over as few carriers as possible to ensure maximum negotiating power. This method was widely considered a best practice until the onset of the pandemic when shippers found they couldn’t move cargo after their preferred carriers shut down. - [Using a 3PL to Access the Logistics Technology You Need](https://phoenix3pl.com/frank-p-crivello/using-a-3pl-to-access-the-logistics-technology-you-need/): As a business grows and sales volumes increase, eventually, it reaches a point where manual processes in the supply chain can’t keep up with orders.
